Enjoy this piece from Toni Reavis that chronicles Shalane Flanagan's enduring relentless racing. Toni traces it all the way back to the roots of New England itself. One thing we as coaches, athletes and people can all do better at is being relentless. True relentlessness is proven and refined over years, just as it was for Shalane, who continually persevered through tough races and injury to get to the top. Her New York Marathon win has been a long time in the making.



The IAAF commissioned Dr Athanassios Bissas and his team at Carnegie School of Sports at Leeds Beckett University to analyze the Men's Discus final from this year's World Championships in London. Their full findings will be published next year, but Athletics Weekly has a brief overview in their latest edition. It will be very interesting to see their complete findings, but for now, this gives some insight into the competition.

That Moment when... Vetter Broke Through

World heptathlon bronze medallist Anouk Vetter has enjoyed a memorable competitive year. Here the rising Dutch combined events talent reflects on a breakthrough performance back in 2014 which helped pave the way for her future success.



Standing in the mixed zone shortly after Ajee’ Wilson sprinted to an 800m bronze medal at the IAAF World Championships London 2017, her coach, Derek Thompson, casted his mind back six years to the day he first laid eyes on the teenage prodigy.

“I knew she was special early on,” says Thompson, a former Jamaican football international who is based out of Temple University in Philadelphia, USA. “I’ve had some good ones but she’s special.”



We asked Cathal Dennehy to catch up with some of the elite middle distance world to find out what they wll be doing during the off season. Cathal Dennehy, who won the media 800 meters at the London 2017 World Champs (sub 2 minutes, baby), travels the world, searching for a great athletics story. We were fortunate to get him stateside for a good couple of stories...
