INDIANAPOLIS (July 23, 2012) – Blake Boldon has been named the executive director of the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon (IMM). Boldon brings a decade of coaching knowledge and experience as an elite runner to the IMM.

He comes to Indianapolis from the University of Pennsylvania where he was the head cross country coach for the men's and women's programs. At Penn he was also the coordinator for the Men's Olympic Development Mile and led a crew of officials for the Penn Relays, the world's largest and oldest annual track and field meet.

Also while in Philadelphia Blake became involved with the Children's Crisis Treatment Center, a local not-for-profit organization, serving on the Executive Committee of the Friends of CcTC and as the honorary coach for Team CcTC.

While coaching collegiately, he worked with four future Olympians, multiple national champions and numerous All-Americans. As an elite athlete he competed in events ranging from the 1500 to the half marathon, finishing in the top 10 in the U.S. four times.

Boldon grew up in Osceola, Iowa, and in 2007 became only the third Iowa native to run a sub 4:00 mile. In addition to coaching, he also taught high school and middle school math while pursuing his own athletic career. He has written forRunning Times and contributed to Runner’s World and Fitness Magazine.

“We’re very excited to have Blake with us and know that he will bring to the IMM passion for our mission as well as deep understanding of the running world and crucial management skills for Indianapolis’ premiere marathon,” said Carlton Ray, president of the board of directors.

The 2012 race date is November 3, and this year’s event again includes a marathon, half-marathon, 5K and a kids fun run. Last year, more than 10,000 participants took part in the event.
