Minneapolis/St. Paul – July 21, 2012 – Team USA Minnesota’s Andrew Carlson will run the Wharf to Wharf 6 mile in Santa Cruz, Calif., on July 22.  The 40th annual race, which starts at 8:30 a.m., is a scenic, seaside run with a sold-out field of 15,000.

The winning men’s time last year was 26:56 for the run that starts at the Santa Cruz Wharf and finishes at the Capitola Wharf.

Carlson is a two-time national champion (15k and 25k) who has posted 28:25 in the 10,000 meter distance.  In January, he finished sixth in the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials with a debut marathon time of 2:11:24.

European Track Meet Results

Gabriele Anderson and Jamie Cheever continued their European track meet tour this past week with both placing well and setting personal bests.  Anderson has now run three personal bests in Europe.  Her first was in Kortrijk, Belgium, on July 14 when she ran an 800-meter time of 2:02.83 to finish third (previous was 2:03.03) followed by a 1500-meter best of 4:04.84 (previous was 4:06.46) to win in Lignano, Italy, on July 17.

At the Diamond League meet in Monaco on July 20, Anderson posted 8:43.52 in the 3000 meters to finish eighth (previous best was 9:31.62 set in 2009).  This performance made her the second-fastest women’s 3000-meter runner in Minnesota history and has only been surpassed by Kara Goucher (a native of Duluth) who has run 8:34.99.

Cheever set a personal best in the 1500 meters at a meet in Ninove, Belgium, on July 21.  Her time was 4:17.73 (previous was 4:19.39).  In Gent, Belgium, on July 18, she finished second in the steeplechase with a time of 9:57.51, marking the fourth time in a row she has posted sub-10 minutes in the steeple.
