Unlike in the women’s race, the record books were not revised by the men at the IAAF/Trinidad Alfonso World Half Marathon Championships Valencia 2018 but that didn’t mean there was an absence of thrills and drama as Kenya’s Geoffrey Kamworor romped away over the final six kilometres to secure his third successive world title over the distance.
The start list for the IAAF/Trinidad Alfonso World Half Marathon Championships Valencia 2018 on 24 March are now available. A record 288 athletes --160 men and 122 women-- from 82 countries have entered.
It usually takes young Ethiopian runners time to ward away the shyness and agree to interviews, especially when their most recent performance have catapulted them to the short list of favourites ahead of an upcoming major championships.
And it took some time and patience to convince Jemal Yimer, one of the key athletes to watch in the fight for the men’s title at the IAAF/Trinidad Alfonso World Half Marathon Championships Valencia 2018 following his scorching 59:00 debut for the distance at the RAK Half in the UAE last month. The 21-year-old finished second there in the fastest debut half marathon performance ever.
Registration for the 2018 AJC Peachtree Road Race opened today, Thursday, March 15 through an online lottery at AJC.com/peachtree. Those wishing to be one of the 60,000 participants of the 49th running of the world’s largest 10K can register online anytime during the eight-day until 11:59 p.m. (EST) on March 22. All lottery entrants will receive an email by Sunday, March 25 informing them on whether or not they were selected.
US long distance star Galen Rupp will be in the spotlight at the 44th edition of the Huawei Roma-Ostia Half Marathon, an IAAF Gold Label road race, on Sunday (11).
“I am very happy to run in Rome, I have heard great things about this race,” Rupp said. “My goal is to run a fast time in my preparation for the Boston Marathon.”
