Ethiopians world-class runners dominated the Haspa Marathon Hamburg, taking all three places on the podium: Solomon Deksisa won with 2:06:34, the third fastest time ever in Hamburg. Debutant Tadu Abate took second with 2:06:54 while Ayele Abshero was third in 2:07:19. Kenya’s Solomon Yego finished fourth with 2:07:37 while the 2012 Olympic Champion Stephen Kiprotich of Uganda, was fifth in 2:07:57.

Mazuronak, the top European finisher in fifth place in the 2016 Olympic Marathon in Rio, dominated the race. The German runner Fabienne Amrhein was a surprise second placer, improving her best to 2:32:35. Her personal best was inside the team qualifying time for the European Championships in Berlin this summer. The Kenyan Rose Maru finished third in 2:33:55 with last year's women's champion Doroteia Peixoto Alves of Portugal fourth in 2:35:15.

Coleman for Shanghai DL
SHANGHAI (CHN): World Indoor champion Christian Coleman will make his Diamond League debut in Shanghai on 12 May when he goes head-to-head with defending champion Su Bingtian in a 100m showdown that’s sure to be one of the highlights of a star-studded evening of world-class athletics. Also running World champion Justin Gatlin. Canada’s Olympic bronze medallist, Andre de Grasse, will also be in the mix with British relay World champion Chijindu Ujah. In the 100 m also world 200m champion, Ramil Guliyev from Turkey and Japanese record holder Yoshihide Kiryu – two more sub-10 men. The women’s 200m line-up is no less impressive with two-time world champion Dafne Schippers making her Shanghai debut against Jamaica’s double Olympic sprint champion Elaine Thompson. Also sprinting will be Marie Josee Ta Lou and Commonwealth gold medalist Shaunae Miller-Uibo with US Kimberlyn Duncan and Deejah Steven with Kyra Jefferson. Mujinga Kambundji of Switzerland and top local runner Wei Yongli are completing the field.

Ethiopia’s Dereje Debele Tulu, who ran the current course record of 2:07:48 in 2013, will be challenged by Gilbert Yegon. The Kenyan was the winner of the METRO Marathon Düsseldorf a year later with a time of 2:08:07. This is the second fastest time ever run in Düsseldorf. Volha Mazuronak is the big favourite in the women’s race. The athlete from Belarus was fifth in the Olympic marathon in Rio 2016 and has a personal best of 2:23:54. If weather conditions are suitable she will attack the course record of 2:25:47 on Sunday.

PITTSBURGH – Two-time winner Clara Santucci and defending men’s champion Jacob Chemtai will be seeking repeats against top international fields at the 2018 DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon, set for Sunday, May 6. This year’s 26.2 mile race features a prize purse of $57,000, including $8,000 for each race champion.
